Design Blogs You Might Not Have Heard Of
Here are some hidden gems in the world of design blogs that I’ve enjoyed lately. I suppose “hidden” is a relative term, as some of these blogs are quite well-known. But according to my Google reader, they have relatively few subscribers. These sites provide some fresh and unique perspectives to web design, and I thought I’d try to do my part in helping them gain some more readers:
northtemple

The designers at the LDS church are a talented bunch. Northtemple is a place where they post links and thoughts about design. Their Journal of Design is also excellent. Moreover, the personal blogs of the individual designers are also worth checking out — for example, John Dilworth, Jason Lynes, and of course, Cameron Moll.

Kevin Potts is an author and designer based in Kansas City. He uses Textpattern (and helped write the book).
Design Intellection

David Yeiser is passionate about design, and it shows. The blog is a nice collection of interesting links and thoughtful articles. And if you want to get sIFR to work, refer to this post.
Astheria

In the words of Kyle Meyer himself, Astheria is a place “to provide design articles, viewpoints, and resources that are not the same regurgitated, rewritten articles that seem to plague the discussion of design on the web.” He’s also founded Typesites, an excellent though infrequently updated blog about sites with great typography.

I think I’ve spotted these on a few galleries, never really looked into them (except for Astheria, which I’ve been following for a year or two now).
I really like the Journal of Design on NorthTemple, great content and it looks pretty nifty as well.
Yeah, I’ve come across these sites either through galleries or links from other blogs. I really like northtemple’s design.
well, I’m bookmarking yours!
Hi, I am from China.
I saw a beautiful wallpaper at smashingmagazine named “Calligraphy
“.
It is very nice.
At first I thought it should be designed by a Chinese. :)
Hi David,
Just wanted to drop a quick thank you for including my humble site. Keep up the excellent work here (love some of these design elements).
Oh, and we’re working on the Typesites frequency. ;)
Thanks for the kind words, Kyle! I need to get working on my posting frequency as well :)
